Leslie D. Weinberg is a photographer and documentary filmmaker. She started her career as a photojournalist both as staff writer and photographer for Palm Beach Newspapers in Florida. Leslie authored and photographed a campy black and white, “A Palm Beach Picture Book.”
Her career as a freelance fine art photographer developed with her work being featured in galleries in Florida, New York City and Europe. In the early 90’s she lived in Paris, assisting fashion photographers and continued freelance writing and photography. She returned to Florida in the mid 90s to open a photo studio in South Beach doing artist and model portraits. With a continued desire to tell stories through photography, Leslie gravitated toward working on various film projects.
Returning to school to study film, Leslie received her MFA in Film/directing from Columbia University. While at Columbia, the catastrophic events of 9/11/01 occurred inspiring, “Voices in the Wind,” a personal documentary video/diary intended to express the indomitable spirit of New York. The film screened in L.A. and in several other film festivals around the country.
Currently Leslie is completing a feature documentary, “Neon Now & Then,” an historical art documentary about the disappearance of neon from the American landscape. While researching for the film, Leslie took a neon workshop in which she realized her passion for the gas light art form. She discovered how to create neon pieces, combining black and white photographic images with neon illumination. Drawn to the magic of light, Leslie continues her journey drawing with light in all its forms.
